How to Write a Good Resume

Writing a good resume does take a bit of talent, but with a bit of help and guidance, you should be able to do it without a problem. There are some things that you will have to do first however. The first step to a good resume is figuring out exactly who you are, which might be a little more difficult than you might think, especially when the initial question is actually asked. The question being: “who are you?”

What type of person are you exactly? In other words, where do you see yourself in the next ten years. This is something that you will need to keep in mind when you are getting ready to write a good resume. Even if you do not plan to write this on the resume, you need to know it. If anything, this will come in perfect for the cover letter.

On the subject of the cover letter, have you given any thought to what you want it to say? Basically you will want it to be able to tell the employer why you want to work for the company, what type of experience you have, and why you would be a good employee. One thing that you do not want to do however, is make your cover letter too long. Make it approximately one page, centered, and include your signature. At the top of the cover letter, you will want to address it to: “To Whom it May Concern”, as you do not know the gender of the hiring manager.

Listing your experience in the resume is quite important. A good resume will contain a list of all your past experience, but it should only list experience from the last five years or so. This is especially true if you are a bit older and have experience that goes back in excess of twenty years. The last thing you want to do is remind the employer that you are older!

If you have no work experience, it would be a good idea to list volunteer experience, which is key to a good resume. If you have no volunteer experience you will probably want to go out and get some, whether you’re performing community service or volunteering at your local church. If you feel very adventurous, you could go volunteer at your local fire department.

If you have been ‘fired’ from any of your previous jobs, be prepared to explain why, or at least put a small explanation for it on your resume. A good resume will be able to present the facts honestly without harming your chances of landing the job. These are only a few of the things that you need to remember.

If you do not think you have what it takes to write a good resume, then it would be in your best interest to seek out the services of a professional resume writer. These are people who will be able to help you put together a good resume for a certain fee. Do not hesitate to use a service like this if you feel you have to! At this point, nothing is more important than landing that job! Now that you have a few tips regarding a good resume, feel free to utilize them, and get the job of your dreams.
