If I had to choose between spending time alone or spending time with my friends, I’d rather be alone. I need this time alone to “recharge my batteries,” to re-energize my mind and spirit. Being with friends can be fun and can help you get through the rough spots in life, but it’s the time alone, I think, that forms you as a person.

When I’m alone, I have time to think about my goals and to develop a strategy to reach them. Of course, I can think about these things when I’m with others, but it’s harder to concentrate in a crowd. Being alone gives me the quiet time to really think about my life and what I want to do with it.

Being by myself is also a good way to listen to the silence and relax completely. When I’m alone I can practice meditation and lower my stress level. That’s a very good way to sharpen my powers of concentration. Too much time with friends means filling my mind with a lot of chitchats. That’s enjoyable for a moment, but can dull my concentration.

Being with other people can also distort my view of things. It’s easy sometimes to become too worried about what other people think of me, or what other people have that I don’t. When I’m alone I have time to step back. I can see the real value of things, without being influenced by the opinions of my friends.

It’s natural to want to be with other people, but I find the time I spend alone is more valuable to me in the long run.

  1) Show your understanding of the symbolic meaning of the pictures below(描述点题段).

  2) Give a specific example, and. (举例说明段)

  3) Give your suggestion as to the best way to overcome it (前瞻感言段)

The picture symbolically depicts how some people who call themselves “scholars” are doing their research. Instead of writing their own research papers, they resort to copying each other’s works. Looking at the picture, we cannot but worry about the problem of intellectual honesty—an issue vital to the healthy development of our science and technology cause.

Suppose that every scientist or researcher does not do experiments, but plagiarize others’ research results, then what would happen? There would be no intellectual honesty and people would no longer believe what the scientists say. Since scientists are noble elites of society, if their words are incredible, then the credibility of the whole society would deteriorate and collapse.

Therefore, intellectual credibility is not something that we can afford to lose or leave it at large. We each individual should start from right here and now, and attach great value and importance to the urgency of the issue. It is time that drastic measures were taken by the authorities to change the situation.

in the city where four seasons are distinctively divided, autumn is short.

when it comes to our minds to see the lotuses, they are already bearing the hint of withering.

no one told them what time is,yet they follow the way time goes, flowing with the seasons.

when walking in the city is under regulation,

lets not complain that flowers wither too early.

maybe it is us who broke the rule of nature.

the rosy color in mememories will be brought up again,

like the playmates who keep coming to our minds, with a snug feeling of happiness.

  their faces i cannot recall.

the remainder of pink on the petal,is the only clue i have that leads into my memories.

a clear drop of water rests on the lotus leaf with a turbid pond below.

this single globule shines because of its stay on the green.

if tears come from sorrow, and if tears are bitterly salty,

would a lotus leaf make it better?

until you turned away, i found nothing is reversible.

from the unsettling air we inhale the indispensable oygen.

we will grow old as well, and not even care about settling down.

  without a word of farewell.

maybe your friends are still warning you of the haste,

you are already here with me.

i suddenly think of the word "eternity".

  such a distant concept...

There are two pictures:The first is a photo of a man's face on which the name of the famous footballer Beckham can be seen.In the second picture we can see a man in a barbershop, his hair being done in Beckham's hair style, costing him 300 yuan.

Obviously, the two persons are fans of Beckham. These pictures, although a little exaggerating and satirical at first glance, can make us ponder:why does this phenomenon appear? As is known to all, with the development of modern communications, more and more people are influenced by some so-called "stars".So,we have many fans who run affer and imitate them-film stars, athletic stars, even stars of super-girl singers.Firstly, they do so because they admire them and want to obtain their fame and reputation.Secondly, although there is no denying the fact that some people do this out of pure adoration, yet, some just want to become wealthy overnight-without hard work, without sweat, just effortlessly.

Anyway,in my opinion, our government must educate our people-especially the youth-that some famous people get their reputation because they have made GREat contribution to our society-such as Liu Xiang. And we ourselves also must understand that their achievement is not easy job. We'd better turn our admiration into practical action to learn from them so that we can make even greater contribution to our motherland in the future.

in the past, technological advancement was generally held to be synonymous with progress, and progress to be synonymous with absolute good. people thought of technology as a solution to problems, not a creator of them. as we took each step forward, technologically speaking, we assumed that we were leaving old difficulties behind and advancing into a new and more pleasant future. this was only partially true. for us technological advancement did solve old problems, it also created new ones. these problems are of various types, each having different implications and requiring different degrees of human decision.

one set of problems can be readily identified by looking around. these problems concern the "pollution" of our environment by technology as a result of sudden upsets and imbalances in the physical, economic and social equilibrium. the most obvious aspects of these are the general pollution of our physical environment and the destruction of irreplaceable natural so obvious as these, but just as painfully significant to some, are the effacement and displacement of jobs which over night often create large groups of jobless technology be used to undo what it has done, replace what it has destroyed or substitute what it has caused to disappear? no one knows. many of us wonder whether all of the sources of pollution have yet been identified, whether they are being arrested and whether they will be prevented from recurring.

another set of problems relate to what technological advancement has done to the quality of life. an improved life has not been, unfortunately, either the goal or the chief beneficiary of technological change. too much has happened too fast. in contrast, in the past, things changed slowly enough to accommodate gradual change. people could be aware of it and adjusted to it, and perhaps they could even change it. in the modern world, we must make rapid decisions today, or tomorrow wemay find a whole new world built sumably the most significant and potentially eplosive issues, however, are those related to methods of human manipulation and control. there is also the new horizon of genetic analysis, manipulation and correction. and there is now the possibility of creating a living substance and decoding and generating a complete organism from the information found within a s is no longer a daydream. some consider these possibilities visions, others nightmares.

it is true that incredible powers are now within our hands,or at least within our reach, and the question no longer is "can we do it?" but "how soon can we do it?" our lives have been and are being changed drastically. the point is to take control of technology or to be driven by it.

What a terrible and shocking scene it is! As is vividly depicted in the drawing above, sitting on the boat and enjoying their sightseeing, a couple of youngsters are throwing rubbish into the sea, with many dead fishes floating on the surface. What is conveyed in the picture is both realistic and thought-provoking.

The implied meaning of the given picture can be elaborated in terms of environmental protection and public manners. On the one hand, along with the development of the economy and society, people tend to attach great importance to personal and economic interests, ignoring ecological balance. As a consequence, environment has been polluted so seriously that environmental protection should be put on the agenda immediately. On the other hand, the inappropriate public manners such as littering and spitting are also one of the major factors causing environmental problems. If we let it go as it is, the nature will take revenge on human being sooner or later.

with the rapid development of science and technology, tele-education has sped up in our country. while many people speak highly of its advantages, others see more disadvantages deriving from it.

the advocates of tele-education give their arguments as follows. for one thing, tele-education makes it possible for people in remote areas to learn the subjects they are interested in. for another, people have a wider range of choices as to teachers and lessons through tele-education, because they can listen to the best lessons by the best teachers in the country, or even in the world.just as “every advantage has its disadvantages”, the opponents believe that not all the people have access to tele-education because many are poor. in addition, the students cannot contact teachers, but interpersonal relations are important to their study.

as far as i am concerned, we should develop tele-education more rapidly to benefit more students. meanwhile, we can design some programs to help teachers and students to contact each other.

thank you for being with me. good-bye.

We can see from the picture that , but .

If , he would surely expre. There are three reasons to explain why it happens to . Firstly, , which resulted from . Secondly, though , . Consequently, . Thirdly, .

I maintain that effective measures should be taken to put an end to this phenomenon. Firstly, we need to endeavor to advocate . Secondly, strict regulations should be enacted and enforced to create a harmonious and orderly society. Only through the combined efforts can we eliminate this “tumor” forcefully and completely.

The bar chart clearly shows the situation of outdoor activities of both Chinese and American college students. To be specific, the number of American and Chinese college students who attend outdoor activities several times a year is fairly large, but the number of students attending once a month, once a week or once a day is falling gradually. Meanwhile, for the students taking part in outdoor activities several times a year, there are more Chinese than Americans, but in the other three cases, there are much fewer Chinese.

Why should this phenomenon take placeThere are two factors accounting for it. To start with, the students’ poor sense of health makes them neglect the physical exercise, so a large number of students take outdoor activities just out of their interest. In addition, the reason why American students do more exercises than Chinese students may be that Chinese students’ workload is relatively heavy. Facing the pressure of schoolwork, they have to study harder and have no time to do sports.

From what has been discussed above, I hold that we should enhance our awareness of health and take practical actions to take part in more outdoor activities.

The column chart above illustrates the online shopping transactions and the growth rate in China from 20xx to 20xx. During the period, there was a dramatic increase from 0.6 billion in 20xx to 125 billion in 20xx in the transaction. Meanwhile, the growth rate decreased from 200% to 110.4 percent, a decline of about 90%.

While online shopping is not without its risks, it offers an excellent alternative to traditional shopping for people. The first reason that e-shopping is so appealing is its relative ease and convenience. For conscientious students with hectic schedules, purchasing items on eBay or Taobao.com is an excellent way to free up valuable time for their studies. The second advantage of online shopping is that it is available 24/7. Being able to shop at any and all hours of the day is not only conducive to the late nights associated with the modern lifestyle, but also means that people no longer have to plan their activities around stores’ opening hours.

Despite the advantages to peoples of making purchases online, there are also a few caveats that young people should bear in mind. Firstly, the speed and convenience of e-shopping many encourage frivolous or unnecessary spending by inducing people to buy more than they had initially intended. Secondly, there is a chance that those people who are already introverted may become even more alienated from the outside world.

The Influence of Television and Movies

There is no doubt that watching television and movies can influence the way that people behave. Moreover, it seems that people are spending more and more time watching some sort of visual entertainment, whether it is television, a video tape or a DVD. Therefore, the effects of visual media cannot be ignored.

With the every-increasing popularity of video entertainment, society must pay attention to these effects. Television and movies, while entertaining and informative, cannot take the place of real experience.

  时间去观看一些视觉娱乐节目,不论是电视、录像带,或是 DVD。所以,视觉每体的影响是不容忽略的。

people appear to born to compute. the numerical skills of children develop so early and so ineorably that it is easy to imagine an internal clock of mathematical maturity guiding their growth. not long after learning to walk and talk, they can set the table with impress accuracy---one knife, one spoon, one fork, for each of the five chairs. soon they are capable of nothing that they have placed five knives, spoons and forks on the table and, a bit later, that this amounts to fifteen pieces of silverware. having thus mastered addition, they move on to subtraction. it seems almost reasonable to epect that if a child were secluded on a desert island at birth and retrieved seven years later, he or she could enter a second enter a second-grade mathematics class without any serious problems of intellectual adjustment.

of course, the truth is not so simple. this century, the work of cognitive psychologists has illuminated the subtle forms of daily learning on which intellectual progress depends. children were observed as they slowly grasped-----or, as the case might be, bumped into-----concepts that adults take for quantity is unchanged as water pours from a short glass into a tall thin one. psychologists have since demonstrated that young children, asked to count the pencils in a pile, readily report the number of blue or red pencils, but must be coaed into finding the total. such studies have suggested that the rudiments of mathematics are mastered gradually, and with effort. they have also suggested that the very concept of abstract numbers------the idea of a oneness,

a twoness, a threeness that applies to any class of objects and is a prerequisite for doing anything more mathematically demanding than setting a table——is itself far from innate

nowadays, wherever we turn our gaze, we can see different types of food that are easier to prepare. for instance, we can buy frozen foods in a supermarket and just prepare it in a couple of minutes, whereas before it could have taken us maybe hours to prepare this kind of meals. i would accept that this so-called improvement has changed our lives, but i believe that there are some drawbacks as well.

it is true that these kinds of food do not involve hard work to prepare, but food that is easy to prepare generally has some artificial ingredients mied in it that makes it "easy-to-cook". if we take time to read the ingredients, we would definitely come across words like preservatives or?artificial flavorings. it was just a couple of days ago that i came across a newspaper article which stated that someone was poisoned because he ate this type of food. he was hospitalized for almost a month.not having to cook has also taken the fun out of cooking. cooking is an art, but in todays world, this is no more true. people are so busy with their work that they just rely on this simple foods. the invention and production of this foods have made people lazy not only for cooking but also for a well family get-together. it was not like former times when families would sit together and eat freshly baked food. instead, they are getting these artificial things with minimal nutrients in them.

cooking in the yesteryears was much better than todays. people would spend more time in the kitchen, preparing the food in the way that they liked it. this brought families closer together and also contributed to the high quality and nutrition of the food. granted, people are busier nowadays and do not have as much time as they did in the past, but i believe that people have forgotten the importance of healthy, fresh food and of the time a family spends together preparing the food. so, i would say that having food that is easy to prepare has had many disadvantages.
