英语定语从句的翻译

Abstract
In English, the relative clause is also called the attributive clause, which is led by a relative word such as which, who, whom, that, and so on. According to the relation between the relative word and its antecedent, the English attributive clause can be divided into restrictive attributive clause and non-restrictive attributive clause. To find out the modifier in the attributive clause is always a difficult problem in its translation. This thesis emphasizes the importance of free translation by analyzing several kinds of translating methods of the subordinate clauses, and translating them into attributive structures, adverbial clauses, independent clauses, predicate structures and objects. It also uses the pragmatic method to explore the possibility of equivalence in meaning by transforming appropriately the surface structure, especially the grammar structure of a sentence, when translating.

摘 要
关系分句是由关系词引导的分句结构，这种分句结构又称为“定语结构”。就其与先行项的语义关系，定语从句分为限制性定语从句和非限制性定语从句。定语从句的修饰对象1直是翻译中经常遇到而难以把握的问题。本文通过分析定语从句翻译的几种处理方法：译成定语结构、状语从句、独立句、谓语结构、宾语等来说明翻译中意译的重要性，并用语用学的方法来探讨翻译过程中表层结构（此处主要指语法结构）的适当转变来达到意义上对等的可行性。
