英语口译中数字口译的方法与技巧

随着改革开放大潮的到来和经济全球化的迅猛发展，英语作为全球通用的贸易语言在日常贸易活动中发挥着至关重要的作用，市场对于口译人员的需要日益增多，而对口译的要求也越来越高。在日常商务谈判和商务交流中，由于涉及到资金和交易量问题，数字在口译活动中不可避免。但是由于中英双方在数字计量方法上不同，要在极短的时间内翻译一些繁琐的数字对于口译人员来说是极具挑战的一项工作。因此，对于英语数字口译必须掌握一定的规律和技巧，才能确保数字口译的准确性和及时性。
一、中英数字表达方式的区别
(一)中英数字位数表达的区别
中文和英文在数字的位数表达上有着各自独立的表达方式。中文数字的表达单位按由小到大的顺序依次为“个、十、百、千、万、十万、百万、千万、亿、十亿、百亿…….”，都是以十的倍数来表达。而在英语的数字表达方式上，十是“ten”，百是“hundred”，千是“thousand”，百万是“million”，十亿是“billion”，英语是以三位数作为一个计量单位，对于其他数位的数字，都是以这几个基本单位为基础进行计数。例如在中文中有万这个单位，英语中则是以千的倍数来表达万，如“六万”在英语中为“六十个千”，即“six thousand”。另外，在数字口译中还必须注意美式英语与英式英语的区别，其主要区别就在“十亿”这个数字上，比如50亿，在美式英语中为“five billion”，而在英式英语中却是“five thousand million”，即英式英语通过“thousand million”来表达“billion”。因此，要想成为一名合格的口译员，还必须掌握英式英语与美式英语在表达方式上的一些区别，这样才能避免口译过程中的失误。
(二)中英数字计量单位上的区别
中国由于历史原因，其部分计量单位与国外有着很大的区别，比如常用的两、斤、尺等等，这些单位表达方式在英语中则不可能出现，英语数字单位主要有gram(克)、kilogram(千克)、ounce(盎司)、inch(英尺)等等。这些数字单位不仅仅在表达上不同，必须通过一定的转换才能等价看待，比如one kilogram(1千克)等同于国内的2斤，one inch(1英尺)等同于国内的0.9144尺。翻译人员在翻译过程中不仅要懂得这些单位的表达，还要懂得单位的转换。
(三)中英倍数与分数表达的区别
在数字口译中，倍数和分数也是口译员经常回遇到的表达方式，这就要求口译人员不仅能翻译出表面的数字，还必须准确表达出倍数或分数的关系。
在中英倍数的表达上，中文常用的表达方式为“A是B的X倍”或“A比B大X倍”，这两种表达方式在中文完全不同，“A是B的X倍”表示A=X*B，“A比B大X倍”则表示A=(X+1)*B。而在英文倍数表达方式中，对上述中文倍数的两种表达方式的意思却相同，即“A is X times as large as B”，也可表示“A is X times larger than B”。
在分数的表达上，基本表达方式较为简单，比如：1/5 one fivth，5/7 five sevenths等。而当面对“X times less than”这样的表达方式时，则将其翻译成分数表达方式更为恰当，比如“A is four times less than B”即为“A比B小3/4”。
二、中英数字口译的方法和技巧
由于数字本身不具备规律性很难记忆，因此在口译过程中，要借助一些方法和技巧才能保证口译工作的高效性。
(一)长数字的翻译
长数字是口译员比较头疼的部分，对于比较整齐的长数字(即零碎数字比较少的数字)，并牢记下表的公式即可提高翻译的速度，当然，在记住这些数字的基础上必须多加练习才能保证运用自如。

如果将要翻译的长数字较大或者较为复杂，就要记住“三位一逗”的原则，使用标记法对数字作三位标记。如3375983216，先标记然后按以下单位读出：

对于此类数字口译的另一个方法就是数轴法：首先在记录纸上画一条横线，然后再在横线上画几条竖线并加以标记，具体如图所示：
这样，在口译时，听到数字后迅速填入对应的位置，然后再翻译，既快捷又准确。
(二)模糊表达策略
在口译活动中，有些时候数字只是发言人用来说明情况而采取的手段，这个时候数字固然重要但必须将整体的语境信息表示清楚。特别是在没听清数字的时候，将整体语境的信息表达清楚就成为了救命稻草，可以依据整句的内容猜测数字的趋势，并用适合的词语表达出来。例如在口译“公司这个月的利润相对上季度增长了22.8%”时，当没听清楚全数字时可以译为“公司这个月利润相对上个季度增长了百分之二十多”，在没记下数字时则可译为“公司这个月利润大幅度上升”。下面为数字相关趋势用词汇总：
(1)表示增加、上升的词汇：grow、climb、rise、go up、increase、jump、rocket、soar、gain、surge、shoot up、spiral。其中，spiral表示急剧增加，一般用来表示负面或消极的意思。
(2)表示减少，下降的'词汇：come down、decrease、fall、drop、decline、cut down、sink。
(3)表示到达的词汇：be、add up to、number、amount to、total、equal。
(4)笼统数字表达方式：几个 some、a few，several;十几个 more than a dozen，over a dozen;几十个 dozens of;好几百个 hundreds of;成千上万 thousand of;数以百万 millions of。
但是，口译人员必须要注意使用模糊策略的时候，要把握好度，不要扭曲原文的意思。
总之，口译是机具挑战性的一份工作，而数字口译又是口译工作中的一个重点和难点，掌握好口语的方法和技巧，能够很好的提高翻译精准度。
