  听力录音原文

  Text 1

W: Can you help me? I’m trying to find the library.

M: Go two blocks and then turn right.

  Text 2

M: I didn’t see Tom at his desk. The manager finally raised his salary?

W: No way! They had a heated argument. The manager decided to fire him.

  Text 3

W: Do you think that the possibility of cold weather and snow will affect the result of the game?

M: Well, the Steelers are accustomed to playing in bad weather, so it shouldn’t make any difference to them.

  Text 4

W: There’s a folk music concert tomorrow evening. Do you want to go?

M: I don’t like folk music very much.

W: What kind of music do you like then?

  M: Classical music.

  Text 5

W: I don’t think holding a big party is a bad idea. I love big parties. What’s more, we should pay back all our friends who invited us to their parties.

M: But big parties are so expensive. Don’t you think a smaller one would be more practical?

  Text 6

  M: Let’s have a party.

W: Good idea! When shall we have it?

  M: What about Sunday evening?

W: That’s great. And where shall we have it?

M: I’m thinking of your flat.

W: Oh, you know what my landlady is like. She won’t let us have a party there.

M: Then let’s ask Gillis. Perhaps we can have it in his flat.

  Text 7

W: What’s the matter? Aren’t you feeling well?

  M: I have a little headache.

W: Didn’t you sleep well last night?

M: Not very well. I didn’t get to sleep for two or three hours. Then I tossed and turned (辗转反侧)all night.

W: Didn’t you take an aspirin or anything?

  M: I didn’t have any.

W: Didn’t you get up and go out to the chemist’s to get some?

M: I was too tired and I felt sick to my stomach, too. I thought I was going to throw up.

  W: Didn’t you call a doctor?

M: I didn’t feel sick enough for that.

W: Aren’t you going to see a doctor today? Maybe you should take a little rest.

M: I’ll wait and see. Maybe I’ll feel better after a while.

W: Maybe you have a cold.

  M: I don’t think so. I think it’s something I ate. I feel a little better now.

  Text 8

M: Jane, I hear that you are leaving school now. What do you want to do? Have you made up your mind yet?

W: No, not yet. But I think I’m going to take up singing.

  M: Any special reason?

W: Yes. It’s because I’m good at singing songs. All my classmates say so. Besides, singing is quite interesting and you can meet a lot of people.

M: And you will have to please them, too.

W: Well, you have to do that in any job, don’t you?

M: That’s true. What do your parents think about it?

W: They don’t quite agree with my idea. That’s the only trouble. They want to send me to a performing arts college because they want me to be an actress.

M: Then what will you do?

W: Well… I haven’t decided yet. But I usually get my own way in the end.

  Text 9

W: Officer, I have something to report. My neighbors and I are concerned about the activity in a house near mine.

M: Could you please describe what you have seen?

W: Well, I’ve seen people coming and going there all day and late into the night. It just doesn’t look like normal activity.

M: What do you think is going on there?

W: Well, frankly, I guess that someone in that house must be selling drugs.

M: Wow, that’s huge. Did this just start recently?

W: No, it’s been going on for about a year.

M: Then why did you wait till now to report?

W: Actually, one of my neighbors reported it to the police several months ago. But they didn’t pay much attention. So I’m calling again.

M: Oh, I’m sorry about that. We do try our best to keep everyone free from danger. We just need to work harder to make our society better.

W: You’re right. And what we should do is helping the police.

M: Glad to hear you say so. We will check that house right now. Thank you for calling.

  Text 10

During my last year of school, I was given the opportunity to visit an advisor and I drove her crazy with my choices.

My first choice was a chocolate tester. I discovered that chocolate testers earn a lot of money, so I was sure I had found my dream job. However, when I found out that chocolate testers don’t just sit around eating chocolate all day and they are also involved in the marketing and promotion of the product, I finally gave it up.

Next, I thought of becoming a football referee (裁判员). I had loved football since I was young, but I couldn’t play well. Anyway, it seems that referees must be able to run 2.5 miles in less than twelve minutes and they are required to take exams throughout their training. On top of that, only after many years of experience—and if they are lucky—do they get the chance to referee big professional matches. So, my dream of showing David Beckham a red card disappeared.

Finally, I had this perfect idea of becoming a dog stylist after I realized how much our dog stylist was being paid. However, once, while she was styling our Philipo, I noticed he tried to bite her. As you can imagine, that really put me off.

All this research made me realize I had a gift for collecting information, so I had decided to become a journalist.
