商务英语翻译简析

【译文】The management together with the rank and file of our company is determined to make consorted efforts to foster the business to grow into a high-tech focused conglomerate with a competitive edge on the international market.
【点评】这里原文中有“上下”二字，到底如何翻译这个“上”字呢？“上”当然指的是管理层了。人们常说的“管理人员”常被译成“managerial staff”，但实际上，英语里更多见的是用management staff或干脆使用management更简洁明了，只是商务英语翻译中可以效法的。比如：高层管理人员（senior/top management），中层管理人员（middle management），基层管理人员（junior management）。同样，“国际竞争力”通常被译为“with international competitiveness”。“企业集团”是conglomerate——a corporation that has diversified its operations usually by acquiring enterprises in widely varied industries。“公司上下”可以是management and staff，但最好说the management together with the rank and file。“发展成为”用foster（比如foster the local industry）一词比较合适。
