A Study of Nonverbal Communication & Its Cultural Basis in Intercultural CommunicationAbstract
Nonverbal communication is a kind of communication that can convey messages without saying a word, for example, by people’s body language, paralanguage, silence and their dress; it can also be called “silent language”. It can express information in different forms and can help people to communicate better by its functions. Therefore, nonverbal communication cannot be ignored in human’s communication.
In intercultural communication, some nonverbal actions can be interpreted in various ways are various from one country to another for the cultural difference. In order to know and understand the difference, close attention should be paid to the specific cultural basis. To introduce the nonverbal communication more completely and discuss its cultural basis more clearly, nonverbal communication is analyzed in six categories with typical instances in each category. This thesis aims to help people to understand the different ways of thinking embodied in different cultures.

摘 要
非语言交际是1种无需言语而通过人们的体态语言，副语言，沉默和他们的服装等来传达信息的交际方式。。它也可被称作“无声的语言”。非语言交际有很多种形式来表达信息而且它有许多的功能来帮助人们更好地进行交流。因此，非语言交际在人类的交际中不可忽视。
在跨文化交际中，由于文化的差异，1些非语言行为在不同的国家含义是5花8门的。为了认识和理解它们之间的不同，我们必须关注它们所特有的文化基础。为了更完整地介绍非语言交际和更清楚地介绍它们的文化基础，本将非语言交际划分为6种形式，在每1种形式中我们将介绍其中具有代表性的例子和它们的文化基础。以此来展示出世界不同的文化背景下，人们的思维、认知方式的千姿百态。
