On Translating Euphemism between Chinese and English
Abstract
Euphemism is a very common language strategy in communication. Almost everyone uses euphemisms either consciously or sub-consciously every day. People use them with various intentions and for various purposes. As a common language phenomenon, euphemism has aroused peoples interest. However, the study of euphemism has been limited on the lexical level. This thesis examines the brief history of English and Chinese euphemism, and attempts to identify the existing problems of euphemism translation by analyzing examples of translated texts in both Chinese and English. And a detailed explanation of translation principles is offered and feasible strategies for euphemism translation are proposed.

摘 要
委婉语在交谈中是1种常见的语言策略。几乎所有人每天都在有意识或无意识地使用委婉语。作为1种常见的语言现象,委婉语很早就引起人们的重视和关注,但人们对委婉语的研究仅局限于词汇层次上。本文分析了英语和汉语委婉语的历史,并阐述了造成委婉语误译的两个因素。更重要的1点是，文章讨论了如何运用翻译的3大原则进行委婉语英汉互译。
