(1)识别
首先考生需要识别作者在文章中使用了什么具体的证据形式(facts, statistics, quotations from experts, the results of experiments or other research, examples等)，参考的表达可以是：The author uses/adopts/utilizes/employs 具体的证据形式 to support/buttress/back up/emphasize his/her argument/claim.
(2)内容
为了满足考试Reading评分的要求，考生需要写出作者使用的证据的具体内容是什么。考生可以根据文本内容合理地选用quote、paraphrase或summarize。
? quote: 原文本信息比较简单，保留原文本语言风格
? paraphrase：原文本信息比较繁杂，可以使用自己的语言重新整理
? summarize：原文本信息内容太长，细节信息太多
(3)分析
写出证据内容是什么后，需要去分析该证据是如何支撑论证作者观点的。一般来说，考生可以从两个方面去分析证据：一是作者为什么这样写，这一点比较容易分析，作者使用证据的目的往往是为了更好地论证该自然段或全文的观点;二是作者这样写能够带来什么样的结果，这对考生来说有一定的难度，需要考生很好地理解文章内容，体会证据在读者中产生的理性或感性上的共鸣，这一点和语文课上的现代文阅读分析比较类似，需要考生课下多阅读多积累。
因此我们知道对于新SAT写作，学会分析作者文章是一个很重要的SAT写作经验，这一点希望同学们在平日SAT写作学习中多加注意。而在其中分析例证就是一个重要的环节，下面通过一个例子进行讲解，同学们不妨体会下，发现其中的内涵。

At my family’s cabin on a Minnesota lake, I knew woods so dark that my hands disappeared before my eyes. I knew night skies in which meteors left smoky trails across sugary spreads of stars. But now, when8 of 10 children born in the United States will never know a sky dark enough for the Milky Way, I worry we are rapidly losing night’s natural darkness before realizing its worth.
