ladies and gentlemen,boys and girls,
i am chinese。 i am proud of being a chinese with five thousand years of civilization behind。 i’ve learned about the four great inventions made by our forefathers。 i’ve learned about the great wall and the yangtze river。 i’ve learned about zhang heng and i’ve learned about zheng he。who says the yellow river civilization has vanished?i know that my ancestors have made miracles on this fertile land and we’re still making miracles。 who can ignore the fact that we have established ourselves as a great state in the world, that we have devised our own nuclear weapons, that we have successfully sent our satellites into space, and that our gnp ranks no。 7 in the world? we have experienced the plunders by other nations, and we have experienced the war。 yet, based on such ruins, there still stands our nation----china,unyielding and unconquerable!
i once came across an american tourist。 she said,“china has a history of five thousand years, but the us only has a history of 200 years。 five thousand years ago, china took the lead in the world, and now it is the us that is leading。” my heart was deeply touched by these words。 it is true that we’re still a developing nation, but it doesn’t mean that we can despise ourselves。 we have such a long-standing history,we have such abundant resources,we have such intelligent and diligent people, and we have enough to be proud of。 we have reasons to say proudly:we are sure to take the lead in the world in the future again, for our problems are big,but our ambition is even bigger, our challenges are great, but our will is even greater。
i am chinese。 i have inherited black hair and black eyes。 i have inherited the virtues of my ancestors。 i have also taken over responsibility。 i am sure, that wherever i go,whatever i do,i shall never forget that i am chinese!

Learn How to Say No
We've all been taught that we should help people. It is the right thing to do and will make us popular with others. It may even win us favors in return. However, we must be realistic. We can't say yes to every request. If we did, we would fail or go crazy for sure. Sometimes we simply don't have the time to help. In this case, we must know how to say no politely.
When we need to say no, here is one method we can try. First, we should tell the truth. If we really can't do something, we should just say so. Second,
we should remember to refuse requests politely. We must communicate clearly, but must also be sincere and sympathetic. A true friend will understand. Finally, we must not feel guilty about saying no. Sometimes refusing others is the right thing to do. It can save ourselves, and them, a lot of trouble. In short, we cannot please everyone all the time. Refusing favors is a part of life.
The tempo of modern civilization has been much quickened in the last twenty years。 While witnessing the dramatic changes in the better-off society, people begin to reconsider the question of "survival"。 "Survival" in the old sense does not bother us anymore。 Instead,we are more concerned about how to "survive" in the human world full of petition。
Competition always carries abreast challenges and opportunities to everyone involved。 It might appear in an entrance exam,in a regular class,or in a small public speech。 Those who fail to detect its real nature-whether an opportunity or a challenge a petition really is- will lose something more or less conducive to our growth。 Of course,if we take the petition as an opportunity,we will favor it intentionally because they can help us outstand from the average; they will make us bee the focus of public attention; they will grant us more chances and rights to succeed。 As a matter of fact, opportunities are supposed to be more perceptible and weling than challenges。 The truth is,however,we will lose more opportunities when we choose to take the "opportunity" fork at the crossroads。 The other fork, ignored by us and defined as "fearful challenges",offers much more chances for the walker in petition。
We have such an inclination in life to overestimate ourselves and hold a thoughtless attitude towards the negative outlook of things。
We believe in the old saying,"Opportunity knocks but just once," so we always wele it and devote all our spirit and efforts to it。 The most devout believer of this saying are the graduates。 Why? There are quite a number of them who pay full attention to positions in big cities and are willing to flood into developed areas under any circumstances, even though there will be too much uncertainty for their choices。 Innumerable cases go straight to the same miserable end: God seems to refuse to help too many of His worshipers。
In conclusion,to define the quuality of petition seems to be far from valuable sense, for no matter what a petition is,an opportunity or a challenge,it will create nutritious elements for our growth。
So take a positive look at everything around。 Keep our face to the sunshine, and we will not see the shadows。

The Low-Carbon Economic
Nowadays, with more and more serious problem such as the global increasing temperture, the melting ice and the rising sea-levering,people are recognizing the important of developing the low-carbon economic now.
There are many ways we can do to reach the loe-carbon tly, discovering others fuels which is more clean and more green to instead of the using of ndly, we should have the save-energy conscious and do something which we can make, for instance, using the bus ranther than car when you go out,re-use the thing that can be recycle used, reducing the use of plastic but not least,we should plant more trees or other greenplants,in which way we can not only improve the environment, but also can make our home more beauty.
In my opnion, the most important thing to reach the low-carbon economic is everyone must try their best do what they can do for everyone have the sence of low-carbon economic and have the action by themselves ,it will be earlier to reach it.
Work and play do not contradict each other; in fact, they complement each other. As the saying goes, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." A life burdened with work leads you nowhere, for you would get tired and bored with your daily routine work. On the other hand, proper recreation will relieve the tension and discomfort of our monotonous life because it offers you various ways to let out your pent-up emotions.
What I usually do to relax after school is jogging and seeing movies. Usually I don#39;t spare time for exercise, but I value the physical education class at school. Jogging several rounds in the field certainly relieves the day#39;s pressure. On weekends, I#39;ll catch the morning movie for my visual enjoyment. I feel revived and energetic for another week#39;s work-load.

In the year of XX, the government vigorously promoted "College Students' entrepreneurship", because the severe employment situation makes college students' Graduation like unemployment, without a good job to show their talents. Only their own business in order to better play to their ability!
However, entrepreneurship is not as smooth as some enthusiastic college students look forward to. Entrepreneurship is a very serious issue. We need to meditate on the route of entrepreneurship.
The most important thing to start a business is to choose a good start-up project. Looking at the current social industry, it can be said that everything has been "occupied" by people, such as network industry, catering industry, tourism industry, transportation industry. It is very difficult for newly arrived college students to make a difference in this kind of industry only by the government's start-up loan. Take the Development Department of the network industry, has developed to almost saturated state! What network shopping, network exchange, can think of, people have been operating! So it's very difficult to get involved in these industries!
Secondly, we need to consider the cost of starting a business. Although there are government subsidies, it is enough at the initial stage of starting a business. However, the increasing cost makes the penniless college students start to feel nervous, which is most likely to lead to the failure of starting a business. This is a very painful result. So in the early stage of entrepreneurship, I also need to have a certain economic strength to deal with all the unexpected things in the future entrepreneurship!
Finally, entrepreneurship is necessary for talent, their own team. As long as there is an effective team, it is easy to deal with things! Everything goes smoothly, but if you want to keep your team and run your "team" well, ordinary graduates can't do it, because it contains very complex social relations, so communicating with others is an important means to win the trust of the team!
I would like to warn those college students who have just graduated: there are risks in starting a business, and they need to think twice before entering!
Good morning ladies and gentlemen, today, I would like to introduce my beloved hometown—Inner Mongolia to all of you. It has been 57 years since the birth of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on May 1st, 1947. Dominated by the Mongolian nationality, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is located on the northern frontier of China. The Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region occupies an area of 1.18 million square kilometers and has a population of about 20 million people who represent a score of different nationalities. Every time when people talk about Inner Mongolia, they’ll cne down to the vast grassland. Yes, the Inner Mongolian prairie area makes up a quarter of the total grassland area of the country. On the boundless expanse of the Inner Mongolian prairie are living numerous sheep, Cattle and horses, on which our Mongolian have lived for generations. That is why the grassland is eulogized as “cradle of life”. There are two vast grasslands in my hometown—Hulun Buir Grasslands and Xilin Gol Grasslands which are both world-famous regions. People in Inner Mongolia are famous for their bravery, enthusiasm and hospitality. No mater where you are from, as long as you cne to a herdsman’s house, you will be warmly entertained with roasted whole lamb and milk tea, and what’s more, you can also appreciate beautiful Mongolian songs and elegant dances. It is not exaggerating to say Mongolians are born singers and dancers. The moment you set your feet on the grassland areas you will discover it is indeed a real land of songs and dances.
Today’s Inner Mongolia still maintains her ethnic characteristics and at the dame time, she tries to keep pace with the development of the modern world. Ordus is a worldwide well-known brand, Yili and Mengniu are both the famous dairy industries, which have greatly improved the living standard of our Mongolian people. And I’m sure, our Mongolian people will make great effort to contribute to our hometown. As a college student, I know quite clearly that my mission is to master solid knowledge and one day do good to my beloved hometown.
President Bok, former President Rudenstine, incoming President Faust, members of the Harvard Corporation and the Board of Overseers, members of the faculty, parents, and especially, the graduates:
I’ve been waiting more than 30 years to say this: Dad, I always told you I’d come back and get my degree.
I want to thank Harvard for this timely honor. I’ll be changing my job next year … and it will be nice to finally have a college degree on my resume.
I applaud the graduates today for taking a much more direct route to your degrees. For my part, I’m just happy that the Crimson has called me Harvard’s most successful dropout. I guess that makes me valedictorian of my own special class … I did the best of everyone who failed.
But I also want to be recognized as the guy who got Steve Ballmer to drop out of business school. I’m a bad influence. That’s why I was invited to speak at your graduation. If I had spoken at your orientation, fewer of you might be here today.
Harvard was just a phenomenal experience for me. Academic life was fascinating. I used to sit in on lots of classes I hadn’t even signed up for. And dorm life was terrific. I lived up at Radcliffe, in Currier House. There were always lots of people in my dorm room late at night discussing things, because everyone knew I didn’t worry about getting up in the morning. That’s how I came to be the leader of the anti-social group. We clung to each other as a way of validating our rejection of all those social people.
[NextPage]
Radcliffe was a great place to live. There were more women up there, and most of the guys were science-math types. That combination offered me the best odds, if you know what I mean. This is where I learned the sad lesson that improving your odds doesn’t guarantee success.
One of my biggest memories of Harvard came in January 1975, when I made a call from Currier House to a company in Albuquerque that had begun making the world’s first personal computers. I offered to sell them software.
I worried that they would realize I was just a student in a dorm and hang up on me. Instead they said: We’re not quite ready, come see us in a month, which was a good thing, because we hadn’t written the software yet. From that moment, I worked day and night on this little extra credit project that marked the end of my college education and the beginning of a remarkable journey with microsoft.
What I remember above all about Harvard was being in the midst of so much energy and Intelligence. It could be exhilarating, intimidating, sometimes even discouraging, but always challenging. It was an amazing privilege – and though I left early, I was transformed by my years at Harvard, the friendships I made, and the ideas I worked on.
But taking a serious look back … I do have one big regret.
I left Harvard with no real awareness of the awful inequities in the world – the appalling disparities of health, and wealth, and opportunity that condemn millions of people to lives of despair.
I learned a lot here at Harvard about new ideas in economics and politics. I got great exposure to the advances being made in the sciences.
[NextPage]
But humanity’s greatest advances are not in its discoveries – but in how those discoveries are applied to reduce inequity. Whether through democracy, strong public education, quality health care, or broad economic opportunity – reducing inequity is the highest human achievement.
I left campus knowing little about the millions of young people cheated out of educational opportunities here in this country. And I knew nothing about the millions of people living in unspeakable poverty and disease in developing countries.
It took me decades to find out.
You graduates came to Harvard at a different time. You know more about the world’s inequities than the classes that came before. In your years here, I hope you’ve had a chance to think about how – in this age of accelerating technology – we can finally take on these inequities, and we can solve them.
Imagine, just for the sake of discussion, that you had a few hours a week and a few dollars a month to donate to a cause – and you wanted to spend that time and money where it would have the greatest impact in saving and improving lives. Where would you spend it?
For Melinda and for me, the challenge is the same: how can we do the most good for the greatest number with the resources we have.
During our discussions on this question, Melinda and I read an article about the millions of children who were dying every year in poor countries from diseases that we had long ago made harmless in this country. Measles, malaria, pneumonia, hepatitis B, yellow fever. One disease I had never even heard of, rotavirus, was killing half a million kids each year – none of them in the United States.
[NextPage]
We were shocked. We had just assumed that if millions of children were dying and they could be saved, the world would make it a priority to discover and deliver the medicines to save them. But it did not. For under a dollar, there were interventions that could save lives that just weren’t being delivered.
If you believe that every life has equal value, it’s revolting to learn that some lives are seen as worth saving and others are not. We said to ourselves: This can’t be true. But if it is true, it deserves to be the priority of our giving.
So we began our work in the same way anyone here would begin it. We asked: How could the world let these children die?
The answer is simple, and harsh. The market did not reward saving the lives of these children, and governments did not subsidize it. So the children died because their mothers and their fathers had no power in the market and no voice in the system.
But you and I have both.
We can make market forces work better for the poor if we can develop a more creative capitalism – if we can stretch the reach of market forces so that more people can make a profit, or at least make a living, serving people who are suffering from the worst inequities. We also can press governments around the world to spend taxpayer money in ways that better reflect the values of the people who pay the taxes.
If we can find approaches that meet the needs of the poor in ways that generate profits for business and votes for politicians, we will have found a sustainable way to reduce inequity in the world. This task is open-ended. It can never be finished. But a conscious effort to answer this challenge will change the world.
[NextPage]
I am optimistic that we can do this, but I talk to skeptics who claim there is no hope. They say: Inequity has been with us since the beginning, and will be with us till the end – because people just … don’t … care. I completely disagree.
I believe we have more caring than we know what to do with.
All of us here in this Yard, at one time or another, have seen human tragedies that broke our hearts, and yet we did nothing – not because we didn’t care, but because we didn’t know what to do. If we had known how to help, we would have acted.
The barrier to change is not too little caring; it is too much complexity.
To turn caring into action, we need to see a problem, see a solution, and see the impact. But complexity blocks all three steps.
Even with the advent of the Internet and 24-hour news, it is still a complex enterprise to get people to truly see the problems. When an airplane crashes, officials iMMediately call a press conference. They promise to investigate, determine the cause, and prevent similar crashes in the future.
But if the officials were brutally honest, they would say: Of all the people in the world who died today from preventable causes, one half of one percent of them were on this plane. We’re determined to do everything possible to solve the problem that took the lives of the one half of one percent.

I have received many presents when I have my eleven birthday party. My parents give me a teddy bear, my uncle gives me a book. My best friend gives me a goldfish. Among all the gifts, I love the goldfish the most.
I always want to have a pet in the family, but my parents don’t allow me to keep one. Now I have my own goldfish. I will keep it and take good care of it.
This goldfish is very beautiful. Its colour is pink. I love watching it swimming in the water. Sometimes, I will feed it. I wish it can grow up with me. This is the best birthday present ever!

Our common destiny
“ We are made wise not by the recollections of the past but by our responsibility for the future”
----George Bernard Shaw
China is faced with some enormous challenges as it enters the 21st century. In order to ensure the prosperity of our nation and its future generations we must confront and ultimately solve these challenges.
Some of the more pressing issues facing China are universal. These include environmental degradation, over population and the effects of globalization.
To overcome some of the things we need to implement include:
Enhancing our scientific and industrial technologies in such areas as IT, Bio- tech, AI and Cybernetics.
Further develop public infrastructure in under developed regions.
Promote education reform at all levels.
Introduce sustainable development initiatives.
The implementation of free trade agreement between China and ASEAN.
The benefit to China in introducing these initiatives will be significant and far-reaching. It is important to realize that these initiatives need to filter down through all elements of the society in China. For instance, cutting edge technologies and intellectual properties; the development of e-commerce based economy; an education system that encourages innovation and creativity; increased foreign investment; higher living standards; more efficient use of natural resources.
It is important for us to realize these reforms are both essential and necessary. These will help China to fulfill its vast and unrealized potential on the world stage. It will also contribute more to a globalized world of the new century.
As for the future our task is not to foresee but to enable.
(1)提高并增强我们的科学及产业技术,如在信息技术产业,生物技术领域,人工智能以及神经机械学领域;
(2)加快推动欠发达地区的公共设施建设;
(3)促进不同层次的教育改革;
(4)使可持续发展的观念深入人心;

A Scene to Remember Gu Qiubei
Shanghai International Studies University Advisor: Gong Longsheng
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Today I would like to begin with a story.
There was once a physical therapist who traveled all the way from America to Africa to do a census about mountain gorillas [go·ril·la || g?'r?l?]n.
These gorillas are a main attraction to tourists from all over the world; this put them severely under threat of poaching and being put into the zoo. She went there out of curiosity, but what she saw strengthened her determination to devote her whole life to fighting for those beautiful creatures. She witnessed a scene, a scene taking us to a place we never imaged we've ever been, where in the very depth of the African rainforest, surrounded by trees, flowers and butterflies, the mother gorillas cuddled their babies.
Yes, that's a memorable scene in one of my favorite movies, called
Gorillas in the Mist, based on a true story of Mrs. Dian Fossey, who spent most of bet lifetime in Rwanda to protect the ecoenvironment there until the very end of her life.
To me, the movie not only presents an unforgettable scene but also acts as a timeless reminder that we should not develop the tourist industry at the cost of our ecoenvironment. Today, we live in a world of prosperity but still threatened by so many new problems. On the one hand, tourism, as one of the most promising industries in the 21st century, provides pe
ople with the great opportunity to see everything there is to see and to go any place there is to go去看看每一件值得看的事情, 去任何一个值得去(或可以去)的地方。
It has become a lifestyle for some people, and has turned out to be the driving force in GDP growth. It has the magic to turn a backward town into a wonderland(n. But on the other hand, many problems can occur---
natural scenes aren't natural anymore. Deforestation to heat lodges is devastating || 'dev?ste?t] v. Nepal.
Oil spills from tourist boats are polluting Antarctica n. Tribal adj. 部落的; 种族的people are forsaking f?(r)'se?k]v. 放弃, 抛弃their native music
and dress to listen to U2 on Walkman and wear Nike and Reeboks. All these appalling[ap'pal·ling |adj. 骇人的, 可怕的; 十分低劣的facts have brought us to the realization that we can no longer stand by站在旁边, 旁观; 与...
and do nothing, because the very thought of it has been eroding(侵
蚀) our resources. Encouragingly, the explosive growth of global travel has put tourism again in the spotlight, which is why the United Nations has made 20xx the year of ecotourism, for the first time to bring to the world's attention the benefits of tourism, but also its capacity to destroy our ecoenvironment.
Now every year, many local ecoenvironmental protection organizations an: receiving donations--
big notes, small notes or even coins--
from housewives, plumbers(水管工
人), ambulance drivers, salesmen, teachers, children and invalids(残疾
人), Some of them can not afford to send the money but they do. These are the ones who drive the cabs, who nurse in hospitals, who are
suffering from ecological damage in their neighborhood. Why? Because they care. Because they still want their Mother Nature back. Because they know it still belongs to them.
This kind of feeling that I have, ladies and gentlemen, is when it feels like it, smells like it, and looks like it, it's all coming from a scene to remember, a scene to recall and to cherish. The other night, as l saw the moon linger over the land and before it was sent into the invisible, my mind was filled with songs. I found myself humming softly, not to the music, but to some- thing else, someplace else. a place
remembered, a place untouched, a field of grass where no one seem to have been except the deer.
And all those unforgettable scenes strengthened the feeling that it's time for us to do something, for our own and our coming generation.
Once again, I have come to think of Mrs. Dian Fossey be- cause it's with her spirit, passion, courage and strong sense of our ecoenvironment that we are taking our next step into the world.
And no matter who we are, what we do and where we go, in our mind, there's always a scene to remember, a scene worth our effort to protect it and fight for it.
Thank you very much.
Good evening, everybody! It’s my honor to speak here, and I am very glad to share my topic with you. Then today I’d like to talk something about honesty.honesty means speaking the truth and being fair and upright in act. There are just a few of words, however, doing it completely is one of the most difficult things. By contrary, Those who lies and cheats is dishonest, those who gain fortunes not by hard labour but by other means is dishonest.
Now,firstly, I will share one short story that is well known in China. It named. In order to persuade her son not to follow her to the fair, the boy’s mother promised her son to kill a pig for him. In fact, she didn’t plan to kill anything. But the pig finally died. Who killed it? Zensheng did.He said,”children know nothing to begin with, but they copy their parents and learn from them, when you cheat the boy, you are teach him to lie” This story tell us, we must have faith. If we always lie to others, we will lose the trust of others.
In the long river of history, there are many such similar stories about honesty. All those stories tell us that people are praising the quality of honesty. It was true that most of people value honesty highly. Therefore, honesty is the traditional virtue of the Chinese nation, we should inherit it and not let it break in our generation.
However, now the situation is not optimistic. In the tide of commodity economy today,it seems that more and more people believe in money at the sacrifice of honesty. This is a reason why phenomena of dishonesty upward trend. In people basic necessities of life, it is flooded with fake and shoddy milk, drainage oil; in the political field, many officials have no honesty carring some false bureaucratic activities or movements; in the social life field, many people believe that good faith is a kind of stupid behavior. They don’t understand that honesty is the biggest fortune humans own, and that it is the pre requisite for doing everything well. Do we really want to live in a world full of lies? I think the answer is no. Paradoxically, we all want to have a good faith society. At the same time, the good faith is also the requirement of economy society. We want to have a good faith society, first of all we should be honest.
As a contemporary college students, we are the symbol of civilzation in our country, we should set an example. Just try to put honesty into action in our normal life, we can start small. Like clean up our rooms after making a promise, turn in a wallet full of money that we found, keep a friend’s secret and so on. I believe, the good faith society will come back if we contrive for it!
That’s all. Thank you for listening, ladies and gentlemen.
