For the Green Party, we're looking forward with optimism, confidence and determination. 20xx was a huge year for us. We saw our membership more than triple. So 20xx – this is the year in which we need to turn the Green surge into Green votes andthat's what we're determined to do. What we need to do is, up and down the country, providepeople with the real alternative. And that is what we are doing.
Because so many people, up and down the country, when we look at the local council electionsthat are coming up, are facing local government that's totally, or almost, a one-party state.They are finding that they're not having the tough questions asked. The local council isn'tgetting the scrutiny it needs.
So, sure, local councils are suffering enormously under the government's hideous program ofausterity, but we should always be asking: Can they do better? Can they look after particularlythe more vulnerable in their community better? Can they do a better job with their localenvironment?
So, in the Council elections, we're looking to really grow our number of Green councillors acrossEngland and Wales.
And then we've got the assembly elections in Wales and in London. And these are the chancewhere we can significantly grow our representation, win our first assembly members in Wales inwhat are fair proportional elections, in which people can be sure that their vote counts. If youvote for what you believe in, you can get it.
And of course, our sister party up in Scotland is looking forward with real confidence andenthusiasm to the Scottish Parliament elections there.
What we want, one of the things we need to be getting out of 20xx, is the same kind ofelections, fair proportional elections all around the county, particularly to Westminster and ofcourse getting rid of our un-elected House of Lords.
It was in 1918 when women got the vote. That was the last time we saw significant reform inthe Westminster Parliament.
Now, it really is time for us to think again, look again, plan again, and get real change in ourdemocracy. To get to a situation where people know that their vote counts, they don't have tomake complicated calculations about what other people are going to vote, they can simplyvote for what they want and get it.
That's what I would urge everyone to make a resolution for 20xx. To do your bit towardselectoral reform. It is, after all, our human right to have a fair democracy that reflects ourpolitical will. And of course, in 20xx, we're also going to have to be defending our human rights.Human Rights Act is under attack from our government and we need to stand up and defendit.
So a new year, new possibilities. We've got a government that doesn't have a mandate for thehideous austerity that it's imposing, for the disastrous environmental policies, for its threatsto our human rights.
This government only won the support of 24% of eligible voters. That's no kind of mandate.
Let's pledge in 20xx to ensure that we make real progress toward the real change we need, apolitical system that works for the common good, not just for the few of the richest and apolitical system that delivers a society where we're living within our environmental limits.
And after all, at the end of the day, that's not politics, it's physics. We have to do it. We have tohave real change in Britain.

Colorful lanterns are hung at the gate.All family members will get together on New Year Eve to have a big meal . During which people do not work except for the workers on duty. good morning everybody. my name is stephen. i am honoured to be standing here in front of you all.
i have been living in nanjing for 5 years. i have worked at many different schools and taught many students of many ages. but standing here in front of you in dong shan foreign language school (dong shan wai guo yu xue xiao) i feel like i am part of a big family. as a foreigner i love my life living in china and i love travelling. i have travelled to many countries. but china is my home. my mother and father visited me and my brother now lives in hangzhou. i like living in china as every single day is interesting and like a small adventure. i do love living in china but sometimes i miss my family and best friends in england.
but working at dong wai is a very important experience for me. i feel like part of a big family. all of you are part of this special family. not all schools have this atmosphere. sometimes in life we get tired and feel we work too much. but your school years are very important years. some of the most important years of your life. you can make many friends. and some friends will be more like family to you and maybe some teachers too. you work hard but you are studying and learning. all of the students here are part of the future. some of you may go to study abroad. many of you will stay in china. but one day we will all go to different places. but our lives are these moments we are living right now. right here and now.
so everybody in dong wai. my message is this: do not regret the past or worry about the future, but live for today.
i do not cut my life up into days but my days into lives: each day, each hour, an entire life..

every school has its own set of rules to keep students disciplined. the rules change from one school to another. some schools are much stricter than others. there are also some rules that look strange or funny to us. here are some funny school rules:
tough japanese rules
most schools demand that students wear uniforms, such as sports suits or skirts. but many japanese schools even regulate the color of underwear! they also demand that girls’ white socks be folded in a certain way and boys’ heads be shaved.
other japanese schools tell students that they may not date, go to movies, leave homed after sunset or play video games without permission from the school.
different shoes in us
for safety at some us schools, students must have a pair of indoor shoes to change into at school every day. this makes sure students won’t fall over on the slippery floors and keeps the schools clean.
gum chewing is not allowed in many us school buildings, as it is difficult to clean up. and i f students chew gum in class, they may not focus on their study.
no strange hair in uk
strange hairstyles are not allowed in some british schools. but they might allow students to wear certain hairstyles during the world cup years. two students had a special design shaved into their hair during 20xx world cup. but they were not accepted by their school after that because the school said the rules changed since then.

I’m very honored to stand here and give you a short speech! my topic is Opportunities and Challenges.
First, I would like to know, what does your destiny offer you? Happiness, wisdom, a strong body or something else. If I had asked this question to president Nixon, he would probably had said,”Our destiny offers not the cup of despair, but the chalice of opportunity.”
Needless to say, one of the biggest opportunities given to China is the 20xx Olympic Games. Till now, we have used two sevenths of the preparation time. How much changes have you seen? New roads, new subway lines, public-exercising equipments with beautiful colors, large blocks of grass fields, and also lots of modern gyms which are under construction.
Other than those, there are even more good effects brought to us by the Olympic Games that cannot be seen directly. For example, more and more people will get to know China. I’m sure the mysterious Chinese culture will attract them strongly. And the games will also do good to the economy and environment, for it is gaining the attention of foreign investors and the awareness of environmental protection is being strengthened. What is more, Olympic Games give a unique opportunity to inspire and educate a new generation of Chinese youth with the Olympic values and the Olympic spirit. Now that we have seen so many advances, could you even imagine us losing the holding rights?
I’ve already said a lot about the Olympics and China. But I think everyone should use some time to think of this question, ”Does the Olympic Games have any special meaning to you?”
For us, I mean the Chinese youth, 20xx Olympic Games is a tremendous gift. On New Year’s Day all Chinese children wear new clothes with bright colors. Red is considered a lucky color. Parents and relatives give children the traditional New Year’s gift called lucky money. This money is put into bright red and gold envelopes. Fill under the pillow. in the morning of new year , the kid wakes up to see the “lucky money”, exprethat oneself become one year older. Red is a traditional color for festivals, celebrations, weddings and birthdays.
The lion dancers are always part of the festivities. The lion has a big head and long body made of cloth. The lion dance is accompanied by drums, cymbals and noisy firecrackers. According to ancient traditions the great noise frightens away evil spirits.
