(一)荐举贤能

(二)公私兼顾
推荐信无论是以单位名义发文，向有关单位推荐人才，或是以个人名义向组织推荐或向个人推荐人才，这其中均有举荐人才，公私兼顾的特点。从某个角度来说举荐信可以认为是一种私人之间的通信。凡是写举荐信的人均希望自己的举荐可以成功，得到承认。
