First Job Interview in Maersk Sealand (Shantou)
I arrived at Meritus Hotel about 20 minutes ahead of time, and the receptionist showed me to its meeting room. The 20 minutes were precious to me, because it allowed me some time to recollect and calm down. Actually, I was reciting my English self-introduction on the bus because I just learnt it would be an English interview the previous night and just finished the introduction in the morning.
When it came to 10 o'clock, the manager came in. before asking me any question, she had already impressed me with her fluent English by giving me an introduction about their company and the major responsibilities about the position I was applying for. During her introduction, I had got used to her accent and speed, so I had no great difficulty understanding her.
No big surprise, she first asked me to give a self-introduction. Hehe, it was not a big deal because I had done preparation. In my introduction, I mainly included the educational background, extracurricular activities and personalities. It almost lasted 4 to 5 minutes. She seemed to be pleased with my introduction.
After the self introduction, she asked me some more questions like, what's your expectation for working in our company, the most memorable thing during the college years, something you have devoted most to but finally failed to get what you want, your worst course in university （my answer is PE）, why you want to stay in shantou but not other big cities, what do your families and friends think of you……
not very hard to answer such questions, I just took it as a casual talk with a friend, so I was more like telling vivid stories to her, for example, I told her some interesting things about my parents and sister to answer her question "why do you want to stay in shantou？" she seemed to be interested in my stories.
The interview lasted about 50 minutes. Of course she left sometime for me to raise questions. At the end of the interview, she told me she was impressed by two applicants' written test result, and I was one of the two.
Wow, I never expected that, anyway, it was a great encouragement to me. She promised me the result for the interview would come out soon.
and this afternoon, when I was still deep in a sleep, she called me and informed there would be a third-round interview on Friday.（first the written test, which includes two parts, one is IQ test, the other is personality test, if pass the written test, HR from the shenzhen branch will call and give a telephone interview to test your oral English, about 6 minutes； if they think your oral English is ok, they will arrange the second round interview, the interviewer will be the manager of the branch, like the one I took yesterday； if have chance to the third round, the interviewer will be the future colleagues, like the one on Friday； there is a final round, the interviewer will be the head of the department I am going to）。
I am not sure if I can have a chance for the final round, but until now I feel good and satisfied. Its complicated selecting process really attracts me, which I may not be able to experience in some small companies. So no matter what the result will be, I still feel gratitude to have such opportunity as one of its applicants. It certainly will be something memorable in my job hunting.
