The bat, the birds,and the beasts
There was a big fight between the birds and the beasts. The bat did not join in the fight.
Some birds said to the bat, "Come with us." But he replied, "I am a beast."
Later on, some beasts said to him, "Come with us." But he replied, "I am a bird."
At last the fighting ended peacefully. The bat first went to the birds, and wanted to join in the celebration, but they all turned against him. He then went to the beasts, but was also driven away.

The hare and the tortoise
The hare was once boasting of his speed before the other animals. "I have never been beaten," he said, "when I run at full speed, no one is faster than me."
The tortoise said quietly, "I will race with you." "That is a good joke," said the hare. "I could dance around you the whole way."
The race started. The hare darted almost out of sight at once. He soon stopped and lay down to have a nap.
The tortoise plodded on and on. When the hare awoke from his nap, he saw the tortoise was near the finish line, and that he had lost the race.

The man and his two wives
A middle-aged man had two wives. One was old, and the other was young. They both loved him very much.
Now the mans hair was turning grey. The young wife felt unhappy about this because it made him look too old.

But the elder wife was glad to see her husband growing grey, for she did not want to be mistaken for his mother. So every morning she used to comb his hair and pick out the black ones.
The consequence was the man soon found himself entirely bald.

A Husbandman who had a quarrelsome family ,after having tried in vain to reconcile them by words ,thought he might more readily prevail by an example .So he called his sons and bid them lay a bundle of sticks before him .Then ,having tied them into a fagot, he told the lads ,one after the other ,to take it up and break it .They all tied ,but tried in vain .Then untying the fagot ,he gave them the sticks to break one by one .This they did with the greatest ease .Then said the father:"Thus you ,my sons ,as long as you remain united ,are a match for all you enemies ;but differ and separate ,and you are undone."
