The news media have become more influentialin people's lives, some people think it's a negativedevelopment, to what extent do you agree ordisagree? 新闻媒体对于人们的生活影响深刻,有人认为这种影响是消极的,是否认同?

  【范文赏析】

Perhaps nobody can avoid being swayed byvarious mass media. The news media have beenexerting a tremendous influence on our lives becausethey can not only bring about glaring changes tothe lives of ordinary people, but even ruin a politicalleader. Some people worry that the impacts of massmedia are quite negative. From my perspective, however, what the news media can benefit us isgreater than what they might influence us adversely.

The opposite stand is also understandable. It is true that some paparazzi of tabloidmagazines like to publish details about those superstars’ private lives, which might bringuntold agonies to heroes of the story. Likewise, for the purpose of catering to the taste of thegeneral public, some editors of newspapers and magazines also enjoy deliberatelyexaggerating so as to create a sensation. Surely enough, such irresponsible reportagesshould be highly condemned. However, we have no reason to throw out the baby with bathwater.

On no account can we underestimate the positive influences brought about by the newsmedia. First, the mass media can play the role of educator. As for those who lack the habit ofreading news, they are rather restricted in terms of general knowledge and the experience ofthe world. Conversely, reading news frequently can help us have a broader view of life and thustrain our dialectical mode of thinking.

Also, various mews media can be an indispensable source of information for the vastmajority of people. To illustrate, one of the most crucial lessons of a great manyentrepreneurs is to Watch CCTV news everyday to familiarize themselves with the latestgovernmental policies and market information. Eventually, those amusing news stories can addcolor to the dull routine of every day life. I myself enjoy appreciate stories concerning thecommon people or mediocre life so that I could greatly deepen my insight into diverselifestyles and grow spiritually during the process of thinking.

In closing, my stand is that various news media have and will have irreplaceable roles toplay in our daily lives, the influence, to large extent, depends on how we treat and harnessthem. It is rather groundless to simply say that their impacts can always be baneful.

In some cities, the government has tried toreduce traffic. For instance, they imposed acongestion tax during rush hour. Do you think thisdevelopment is positive or negative? 在一些城市,政府试图缓解交通压力,例如,征收高峰期通行费,你认为有力还是有弊?(2016年1月30日)

  【范文赏析】

Going through the rush hours is a tiresome business. The prevalence of various publictransport has led to severe traffic congestion, especially during the rush hours. Being stuck inthe long queues of vehicles seems to be a big headache for many city dwellers. Personallyspeaking, it is about time governments adopted effective measures, drivers should be chargedwhen they need to drive out in a heavy traffic, which will exert a really positive impact onreducing the serious traffic conditions.

For a start, paying some permission fees could decrease the incidence of going throughthe busy traffic. To be more specific, some drivers would be unwilling to drive their cars inorder to save money when they have no urgent things. Hence, this will mitigate the pressureof heavy traffic congestion. Further, the decreasing number of cars will also purify the air andreduce the noise. As a result, the living quality of the whole city will be greatly optimized, citizens will enjoy a cleaner environment.

This debate reminds me of my own city. Our city government has fewer policies in terms oftackling the pressure of traffic congestion, which negatively influences people’s normal work. The large amount of release of exhaust gas has deteriorated the environment. Even worse, long time wait will ruin the drivers’ moods. Consequently, some people might fail to happilyperform their working tasks when they arrive at the workplace. By contrast, the fee fromdrivers increases the governmental income so that more financial budget could be allocated toperfecting the traffic conditions. Specifically, the government could build more over-bridges toreduce the pressure of traffic jam.

Granted, I have to concede that this policy might impose much pressure upon thedrivers economically. If they pay even limited amount of money every day, then there will belarge sums of money as a whole. What I want to rebut, however, is that in time of a traffic jam,the oil consumption is much more than that of driving a slowly moving car. The cost ofgasoline may be even expensive than the counterpart people pay for driving permission.

In closing, I re-affirm my conviction that it is worthwhile to ask for driving permissionfees when the traffic is busy.

Most government money should be invested inteaching science rather than any other subjects inorder for a country to develop and progress?大多数政府的财政应该投资于理科教育这样,而不是其他科目,这样国家才能发展和进步,是否认同?

  【范文赏析】:

Knowledge is power, Francis bacon wrote long ago. Education has a key to play in one’sgrowth and a nation’s development.

Education is the driving force of productivity. Keeping this in mind, numerous countriesand governments are paying closer attention to the cultivation of talents. People differ greatlyin their views as to how to wisely allocate educational budget, some people assert thatinstead of supporting other subjects, national investment in science is desirable. As I see it,government should place equal stress on both science and arts.

Granted, plenty of evidence and arguments could be easily found to prove that it isadvisable for a nation to subsidize science. For a start, the competition among differentcountries, to some extent, amounts to the competition of gifted people. Science andtechnology is the stimulating factor of the development of productivity. Large amounts oftalents could inject new life into a nation’s prosperity. Besides, in comparison with artstudents, those who are better equipped with science knowledge such as computer, businessand accounting could create more commercial value.

Nevertheless, it is rather superficial to simply say that national budget should be onlyrestricted to science investment. The mightiness of a nation involves many aspects and thecultivation of good citizens or talents is to realize one’s comprehensive development. Theconstruction of a country needs enterprisers, mathematicians and scientist, yet, on no accountcan we ignore the immense value of artists, writers, musicians. In addition to sciencesubjects, literature, history, philosophy, music, art and PE should also become the aim ofeducation. Literature strengthens one’s cultural deposit, history deepens one’s insight into life, philosophy fosters one’s analytical thinking, music moulds one’s temperament, art cultivatesone’s artistic eye and PE enhances one’s health index. In these senses, art still deservesenough attachment and support. Art talents are indispensable to the betterment of acountry.

Overall, I re-affirm my conviction that education should not have too much utilitarian, conversely, it needs to render more concerns over one’s spiritual growth and character-training. Ideal educational policy should place equal significance on science investment andother subjects. (350)

A recent newspaper article reports that a 14-year-old boy seriously destroyed school got apunishment to clean streets instead of sending toprison. Do you think young criminals should be sentto jail? 报道显示:14岁的年轻人校园违规后会受到做清洁工作的处罚而非服刑,你认为少年犯是否应该被送进监狱?(2016年1月14日)

  【范文赏析】:

Alarmingly, various misdeeds among teenagersranging from school bullying or sex assault are nowbecoming big headaches in many countries. Juveniledelinquency not only afflicts the victims but alsojeopardizes the community. Many efforts havealready been made on how to crack down juvenilecrime, but, the effect is far from satisfying. Thisessay aims to represent relevant measures ofpenalties.

Nobody is innate perpetrator, during the journey of life, those who are in the formativeyears are, sometimes, derailed by manifold causes such as the negative influence of negativemass media, the disadvantaged family background or external factors. In this sense, stricterpenalty for the first offenders, unintentional lawbreakers is far from rational, especially whentaking the teenagers’ immature mentality into account. Virtually, appropriate punishment iscommendable, to motivate those juvenile offenders to serve the community or sweeping thestreet can be reasonable measures.

Notwithstanding all that, taking the effects of a misconduct and its motivation intoconsideration is a prerequisite for ensuring justice of the law. There should not be fixedpunishment for all youth crime. Some misdeeds, for example, school bullying or sex assaultswill inevitably distress the sufferers and endanger the society. Hence, light penalty forfelony is unwise. Conversely, stricter punishment for hardened criminals will not only embodythe justice of law but also exert a deterrent effect on those potential malefactors.

To sum up,there is no simple resolution for such a complicate social problem,it isreasonable to expect that the combination of these suggestions may be needed. Custom-tailored penalty may be the best strategy for each teenage crime.
