Textual Approach to Amplification and Omission in Translation
Abstract
We know there are many kinds of translation skills and each kind has its own technique. This paper argues for the necessity of amplification and omission in translation based on textual equivalence. And it points out that to enable the translated text to have the same effect on the target reader as the source text on its counterpart, the translator should be flexible in adopting techniques of either amplification or omission in the scope of the text to guarantee textual cohesion and coherence of the translated text and better conveying of the source text’s full meaning and implication. At the same time，my thesis discusses the skills of technique of amplification and omission and these two techniques’ function and significance. Finally, this thesis puts forward the problems we have to pay attention to and the significance in using technique of amplification and omission in translation.

摘 要
在翻译中有很多种翻译方法，每1种翻译方法都有其特殊的运用技巧。它们都对语篇的衔接产生着影响。本文从语篇对等的角度论述增减译法在语篇翻译中的必要性.为使原、译文读者从阅读中取得相同效果,译者需要在翻译中灵活处理,从语篇层面上来考虑增减语句,以保证译文语篇衔接和连贯这两大语篇特征,使读者更好地理解原文的含义.该文讨论了增译法和减译法的各种不同的翻译技巧，介绍了语篇、语篇对等、语篇的衔接与连贯。从各个方面讨论了运用增译法和减译法在语篇中所产生的意义和作用。最后，文章提出了运用这两种翻译方法的意义和需要注意的问题。
