A Brief Analysis of English Abbreviations and Their Translation
Abstract
People in economic era have to strive for not only the economy of the industry, commerce and the means of subsistence, but also the economy of thinking and language. The abbreviation of English is one kind of powerful and specific reflection of people’s thinking and language in social life. This thesis is a summarization of the former studies on the basis of translating practice in the field of English abbreviations. The present author sums up the former studies and presents the definition, the origin, the classification, and the linguistic features of English abbreviations; based on the theory of translating as a purposeful activity, the present author also analyzes the process and the principles of the translating of English abbreviation; through analysis of a lot of examples the author collects many different kinds of translation skills. The study of English abbreviations it will help our Chinese people know more about English abbreviations, especially, in the translating of English abbreviations.

摘 要
处于经济时代的人们，不仅要讲究实业和生活资料的经济，而且要讲究思维与语言的经济。英语缩略语作为词语的紧缩形式，是人们思想和语言的经济在社会生活中的1种具体的、强有力的体现。这篇文章是对前人在英语缩略语翻译方面的研究的1个总结。作者通过总结前人的研究在文中呈现出了英语缩略语的定义、起源、分类以及语言特征；根据 “翻译是1种有目的性的行为”，探讨了英语缩略语的1般翻译过程和翻译原则；通过对具体例子的具体分析，收集了多种不同的翻译技巧。本文通过对英语缩略语的研究，希望帮助我们中国人更好的了解英语缩略语，尤其是在英语缩略语的汉译方面。
