Architects are not only meant to work in architectural companies. There are many other options available for an architect to work. These are classified mainly into four categories: public architecture, corporate architecture, facility management and other options.

Architects working in the corporate field are mainly hired in office, medical retail, manufacturing, and hospitality fields. There are various career opportunities for architects in this field including entry level designers to top executives.

Public architects serve various government agencies including federal and local. The government administration hires architects to work on the various aspects of projects including planning, designing as well as construction. An architect can be a government employee or he may be hired as a consultant. Architects work for various types of projects including public buildings, offices, military amenities, courts and research buildings.

In facility management, architects are responsible for incorporating architecture, engineering and ecological sciences in private and public firms as well as architecture and consulting companies.
